HIGHLAND COUNTY, Va. – A man is in the hospital with serious injuries after a man shot him in Highland County on Friday, according to Virginia State Police.
Authorities say the incident began at about 7:30 p.m. and happened on Mill Gap Road.

Investigators were told that a 47-year-old Highland County man was standing in his driveway when an individual driving a Jeep drove by and yelled obscenities at him.
That’s when the Highland County man reportedly got into his GMC van and followed the Jeep along Mill Gap Road.
When they were both near the 100 block of Mill Gap Road, the driver of the Jeep, later identified as a 22-year-old man from Mineral, Virginia, fired a round at the GMC van, according to officers.
The 22-year-old man then drove away from the scene but was later stopped in West Virginia by the Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office. The driver and a woman were both taken into custody without incident. Officers also recovered a handgun from the Jeep.
According to authorities, the Highland County man who was shot was flown to UVA Medical Center, where he is still being treated for serious injuries.
At this time, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office is assisting with the ongoing criminal investigation and charges are pending.
None of the individuals in this incident were named.
