The Salvation Army of Roanoke highlights how it helps those battling food insecurity

The ‘Love Beyond Hunger’ campaign is the focus for the month of March

ROANOKE, Va. – The Salvation Army of Roanoke is shining a light on food insecurity this month with a new fundraising campaign for the month of March. The “Love Beyond Hunger” campaign is to highlight the organization’s food pantry and the services they offer for people who are food insecure.

“It’s a way to invite the community, invite the donors, employees, and volunteers to be able to come alongside us and help us feed those in need in our community,” said Captain Russell Clay.

To help The Salvation Army, you can donate non-perishable foods.

“Regular fruits and canned vegetables, non-perishables like mac ‘n cheese, mashed potatoes, canned meats,” said Social Services Program Coordinator, Jaimie Goodman.

On average, The Salvation Army of Roanoke gives out 15 food boxes and 50 snack bags a month. Over the past two years, the number of people who are food insecure in the Roanoke Valley has increased drastically.

“Our need has increased 43%. There is a tremendous need for all of our social services we offer. The food pantry is suffering some. As you can see, our shelves are a little bare. So, we need all the help we can get from the community to help us feed those that are in need this season,” said Captain Clay.

A donation of $25 a month can help feed a family of four. Or food donations can be brought to the pantry on Dale Ave.
