LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Virginia High School League will soon be running with a familiar Hill City face.
Ty Gafford, former VHSL Executive Committee Chairman, was named the organization’s next assistant director for compliance on Wednesday. His new opportunity fills the opening of Associate Executive Tom Dolan, who is retiring this year.

The Lynchburg College alum is currently a principal at Perrymont Elementary School. He has a long 27-year history of leadership on the school, district, region, and state levels with experience from Lynchburg City Schools, Campbell County Public Schools and Altavista schools.
Before serving his current position as a principal, Gafford was an assistant principal, history teacher, a girls’ head varsity basketball coach and JV boys basketball coach.
“As an Assistant Director of the Virginia High School League, I will passionately pursue every opportunity to support my colleagues, the membership, and other stakeholders to provide opportunities for all students to learn, grow, and thrive in extracurricular activities and settings,” Gafford states,
Gafford also served as chairman and region representative for VHSL.
He will start his role on July 1.
