Family of woman killed in hit-and-run on Williamson Rd. pleads for the community’s help

‘She did not deserve to be hit and left lying to die,’ said the victim’s sister in this 10 News exclusive

ROANOKE, Va. – It’s been more than two weeks since a Roanoke woman was killed on Williamson Road. Police say Jody Mcfarland died in a hit-and-run.

Investigators are still looking for answers and so is the Mcfarland family.

Alison Mcfarland described her sister, Jody, as vibrant and beautiful.

“She did not deserve to be hit and left lying to die for five hours on the side of the road in the frozen snow,” said Alison.

Alison says she is working with investigators to help piece together what happened in the moments leading up to Jody’s death.

“I’ve seen the video where my sister was hit. I watched her as she was walking facing traffic,” said Alison. “And then you see her literally mowed down. And you don’t see the brakes tapped at all.”

Alison is begging for people who may have walked or driven by to speak up and talk to police about what they may have seen.

“If it was your mother, if it was your sister, if it was your daughter, how would you feel? I’m not trying to judge you or throw you under the bus,” said Alison. “I understand accidents happen, life-altering accidents happen and it can be a domino effect but it doesn’t have to be that. Just come forward.”

Roanoke police released photos of a white Ford Explorer because they say the driver may have information about the case. If you know anything about the car pictured or the death of Jody Mcfarland, contact Roanoke Police at 540-344-8500. Callers can remain anonymous.

“I just want to see some justice for her,” Alison said through tears.
