Police investigating after man tells Virginia Tech employee he has a gun

Encounter happened shortly before 7 a.m. Tuesday

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech Police Department is investigating after learning someone may have had a gun on campus on Tuesday morning.

At about 6:50 a.m., police learned of a situation where an employee of the university talked with a man who asked suspicious questions regarding the times of most activity on campus. The man also told the employee that he had a gun; however, the man did not display a gun, according to the police department.

Virginia Tech police then responded to the area near Seitz Hall, which is where this reported interaction happened; however, officers were unable to locate anyone matching the man’s description.

The police department is investigating this incident and has yet to determine that a credible threat exists.
