VDH warns of possibility of rabies exposure in Grayson County

The health department is warning anyone in the Grayson County area about possible exposure to rabies after two dogs killed a rabid raccoon during a fight.

Officials said the incident happened on June 8 in the 500 block of Edmonds Road.

If you or your pets have come in contact with a suspicious raccoon or other mammals, you’re asked to contact the Galax City Health Department at 276-236-6127.

To lower your risk of exposure, avoid contact wit unvaccinated cats and dogs or wild mammals.

Officials warn that rabies is fatal once symptoms appear.
