Authorities release name of 34-year-old Rustburg man who died during Tuesday’s storms

He was loading equipment into a trailer when the tree fell

AMHERST COUNTY, Va. – The storms that moved through the region on Tuesday afternoon killed one person in Amherst County.

Christopher Samuel Moore, 34, of Rustburg, died when a tree fell onto a trailer, according to the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office.

Moore, a lawn care worker, was loading equipment into the trailer on B Street when the tree fell.

“Indications from the lawn care crew that he was with said they were loading the trailers as the storm was moving in, the wind was picking up. He was able to get the lawnmower he was on up into the trailer just as the tree fell, crushing him underneath it,” said Lieutenant Robert Oliver.

The tree fell at about 3:30 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

A GoFundMe page has been created to help Moore’s girlfriend attend his funeral service in his home state of Wes Virginia.
