ROANOKE, Va. – Losing an animal can be heartbreaking and bring on a lot of anxiety, but unfortunately, it’s something many people have experienced.
Friday is National Lost Dog and Cat Awareness Day, which sheds light on the fact that one in every three pets will go missing in their lifetime.
That’s why Angels of Assisi is holding a microchip clinic from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 24, at the Towne Square Petco in Roanoke.
Staff says this is a quick and safe way to help reunite furry family members and it only costs $5.
“We hope to have a lot of pet owners come out, get their pets microchipped. That will increase the odds of reuniting them and decrease the amount of pets that go missing and do not make it home,” said Kathleen Legg with Angels of Assisi.
Angels of Assisi is also partnering with Petco Love to launch a new online database.
It uses facial recognition on photos that are scanned to determine whether the lost pet is at a shelter or with a neighbor.
