Man dead after shooting at Lynchburg apartments, police say

Suspect faces multiple charges including second degree murder

LYNCHBURG, Va. – UPDATE

The Lynchburg Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred at James Crossing Apartments Tuesday afternoon.

Police say 47-year-old Scottie Humbles died after being taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound.

Officers arrived on the scene quickly and were able to locate the suspect and take him into custody after a search lasting approximately 30 minutes.

Ja’Quan Quintez Miller, 25, of Lynchburg, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, reckless handling of a firearm, and indecent exposure.

The investigation is ongoing.

One person is in custody in connection to a malicious wounding at an apartment complex in Lynchburg.

Lynchburg Police were on the scene investigating the incident in the Greenfield/Brightstar area.

According to Sgt. Bryan Williams, a shooting happened at the James Crossing Apartments, leading to one person sustaining gunshot wounds.

Police said the victim was taken to the hospital, but don’t know the extent of the injuries at this time.

Residents were initially asked to avoid the area.
