Mill Mountain Zoo, Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office fool residents in April Fools’ Day joke

ROANOKE, Va. – It’s a discovery like no other. Mill Mountain Zoo and Play Roanoke finding remains of an indescribable animal Thursday.

With fossils “way too big to be another type of animal” as Play Roanoke wrote in one post, the discovery captured the community’s attention.

Mill Mountain Zoo received numerous calls and messages from concerned individuals.

But several people were let down once the zoo revealed it’s an April Fools’ joke.

Every year, the City of Roanoke sets up a prank but this is the first time the zoo got to join in on the fun.”

“I think we are going to have several disappointed Roanokers including my six-year-old son,” Mill Mountain Zoo Development Director Jessie Coffman said. “Who would have been thrilled if he found out there were bones here.”

They are not the only ones having the last laugh.

Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office joked they will be getting new electric cars to fight crime.

In a social media post, they said first-time offenders can ride shotgun, play their favorite song on the radio and indulge in some ice cream.

The post continues reading: “one model will be used to pick up wanted criminals by going to their last known address and playing a pre recorded message over loudspeakers that will encourage all wanted persons inside the residence to come out.”

The sheriff’s office joked that these changes would run till April 31st of next year.
