26-year-old Danville man dies, two hospitalized in New Year’s Day crash

PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. – One man is dead and two others are being treated for serious injuries after a crash on New Year’s Day in Pittsylvania County.

Shortly before 2 a.m., police responded to the single-vehicle crash on Tom Fork Road, two miles east of Ringgold Road.

Cornell Lipscomb, 26, of Danville, was driving a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee westbound when he ran off the right side of the road and hit a tree, according to Virginia State Police.

Lipscomb, who was wearing a seat belt, died at the scene.

His two passengers, 27-year-old Lekita Jones and 24-year-old Malik Williamson, were each taken to the hospital to be treated for serious injuries, according to police.

Troopers said Jones was wearing a seat belt, while Williamson, who was ejected from the Jeep, was not.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.
