Roanoke police release name of man who died in hit-and-run crash on Williamson Road

No one has been charged in connection with crash yet

ROANOKE, Va. – Police in Roanoke released the name of the man who died in a hit-and-run crash in Roanoke on Tuesday night.

62-year-old Donald Obenchain died after he was hit by a vehicle that police said was headed south on Williamson Road.

Police are still investigating and haven’t found the driver who hit Obenchain. They said the vehicle is a dark-colored, four-door sedan with front-end damage.

The call came in around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Officers arrived to find Obenchain lying in the road in the 2400 block of Williamson Road, according to the Roanoke Police Department.

Roanoke Fire-EMS pronounced Obenchain dead at the scene.

Investigators said it appeared Obenchain entered the road and was hit by a vehicle headed south.

The driver drove off after the crash, according to police. Police at the scene told 10 News they were looking at surveillance footage from nearby businesses.

No one has been charged in connection with this incident yet. The investigation is ongoing.
