Virginia Career Works in Roanoke closed due to possible coronavirus exposure

ROANOKE, Va. – The Virginia Career Works office in Roanoke is closed due to possible coronavirus exposure.

According to a statement from the executive director, the office had a customer receive services at the Roanoke center on July 15 who later tested positive for COVID-19 and had not made staff aware when they arrived to the center for their appointment.

Those who had appointments at the office said filing for unemployment has already been a struggle before the office closed.

“It was just disappointing and frustrating because I’ve been trying to get through just to talk to a person and you can’t get through, and when you call they just end up cutting you off,” said John Patterson, who lives in Roanoke.

According to a sign on the door of the office, the center is currently closed for a deep cleaning and plans to reopen at 9:30 a.m. on July 22.

Anyone with questions about their unemployment claim should call 1-866-832-2363.
