LYNCHBURG, Va.UPDATE

Lynchburg police have made an arrest in connection with a shooting that happened just after 10 a.m. on Thursday.

28-year-old Steven Smith, of Lynchburg, was arrested and is charged with reckless handling and possession of a stolen firearm, according to the Lynchburg Police Department.

Officers responded to a fight in progress on Fifth Street near Madison Street. After separating two men, an officer saw that one of the men had a gunshot wound, according to Lynchburg police.

The man was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital with what police say is a non-life-threatening wound. 

Police say the investigation will continue.

Lynchburg police are investigating a shooting that sent one person to the hospital on Thursday morning.

It happened in the area of Fifth and Madison streets, according to police.

Emergency crews transported the person who was shot to the hospital to be treated for a non-life-threatening injury.
