Danville man arrested, charged in connection to December murder

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - Danville police have arrested the man they say killed 26-year-old Terquise Lamont Smith this past December.

Police arrested 51-year-old Samuel Peter Moore, of Danville, on Tuesday. He is currently at the Danville City Jail under no bond

On Monday, Moore was indicted by a Danville Grand Jury for first-degree murder, the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, two counts of discharging a firearm within an occupied dwelling, possession a firearm while in possession of a controlled substance, possession a controlled substance, possession a firearm after being previously convicted of a felony and breaking and entering while possessing a dangerous weapon.

These charges are connected to a shooting that happened on December 11, 2015.

On that morning at about 3:03 a.m., police responded to the 600 block of Cardinal Place in reference to a shooting.

When they arrived, they found three people who had been shot. One was 26-year-old Terquise Smith, of Danville, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The second person was a 50-year-old Danville man who was taken to Danville Regional Medical Center for treatment and was later taken by life flight to Carilion in Roanoke for further treatment. The third person was a 29-year-old Danville woman who was transported to Danville Regional Medical Center.
