Officials held a press conference on a plane crash in the nation’s capital that involved an American Airlines plane and a military Black Hawk helicopter. If you missed the live update, you can watch the entire thing here.
Sixty passengers and four crew members were on board the plane, according to a statement from American Airlines. The Black Hawk helicopter had three people on board.
There is no word yet on survivors.
“Our fire department, D.C. Fire and EMS supported by fire departments and police departments from across the Washington Metropolitan region are executing a rescue operation in the Potomac River,” said Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser. “They are working diligently in very dark and cold conditions, cold water.”
Washington, D.C. Fire and EMS Chief John Donnelly said, “It’s a highly complex operation, the conditions out there are extremely rough for the responders, it’s cold. They’re dealing with relatively windy conditions, the wind is hard, out on the river. We’re doing everything we can to keep them safe.”
Reagan National Airport will remain closed until further notice.
