FBI identifies man killed in Appalachian Trail machete attack

ROANOKE, Va. – The victim of last week's Appalachian Trail attack has been identified by the FBI. 

Ronald Sanchez Jr., 43, of Oklahoma, reportedly died from injuries he received after James Jordan, 30, allegedly violently attacked him on the trail in Wythe County on Saturday, according to the FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice.  

Court documents show Jordan faces federal charges that include murder and assault with the intent to murder.

The FBI did not identify the other hikers injured in the attack, and this incident remains under investigation.
