ROANOKE, Va. – The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) is launching a new intercity bus program that will connect Blacksburg and Washington, D.C.
The Virginia Breeze will begin running starting December 1.

The northbound bus will make daily departures from the Virginia Tech Squires Student Center at 8 a.m. and arrive at Union Station's bus deck at 2:30 p.m. The southbound bus will leave Union Station at 9:20 a.m. and arrive at the student center by 3:40 p.m.
Additional stops along the Virginia Breeze route include:
- Christiansburg (Falling Branch Park & Ride)
- Lexington (Food Lion in Stonewall Square)
- Staunton (Martin’s on Richmond Avenue)
- Harrisonburg (Godwin Transit Center at JMU)
- Front Royal (Crooked Run VDOT Park & Ride)
- Dulles Airport (Curb 2E)
- Arlington (Kiss & Ride lot at the West Falls Church-VT/UVA Metrorail Station)
Free Wi-Fi and in-seat power outlets are just some of the amenities that the 56-passenger coach bus will offer.
The Virginia Breeze is partnering with Dillon's, a Coach USA company that also owns Megabus. Passengers may purchase an interline ticket for Megabus destinations north of D.C., to locations such as Philadelphia or New York. The Virginia Breeze marks the first time a state has partnered with Megabus to provide interline ticketing options in the U.S.
Tickets must be purchased online. A one-way ticket between Blacksburg and D.C. is estimated to cost $50. Ticket prices will vary depending on the specific trip.
The program will be funded through the Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) 5311 Intercity Bus Program. High performance of this pilot route may lead to expanded services along this route, as well as the addition of other travel corridors in the state.
