Danville police continue search for man who robbed newspaper delivery driver at gunpoint

Robbery happened just before 3:30 a.m. Tuesday

DANVILLE, Va. – Danville police are searching for the man who robbed a newspaper delivery driver at gunpoint.

Officers responded to the call just before 3:30 Tuesday in the 100 block of Brentwood Drive.

The driver told police he was sitting in his car when a man approached him and asked for a light for a cigarette.

The man then pulled out a gun and demanded money.

He got a small amount of money and the drove away toward Northmont Boulevard.

"As the suspect was leaving, the victim overheard a gunshot. Wasn't sure if the suspect was shooting at them or it just went off. Wasn't really sure, but just described hearing a gunshot," Danville Police Department Lt. Mike Wallace said.

In April 2016, another newspaper delivery driver received non-life threatening injuries when he was shot through his car while delivering papers early in the morning.
