Thousands expected to pack Danville's Carrington Pavilion for Fourth of July celebration

Celebration includes kids activities, orchestra, fireworks

DANVILLE, Va. – The city of Danville will celebrate the Fourth of July with festivities at the Carrington Pavilion.

Gates open at 6 p.m.

The first event, a magic show, is scheduled to begin at 6:15 p.m. on pavilion stage.

This is a very family-friendly event with lots of activities for kids.

Inflatable bounce houses and food vendors will be set up.

This is actually phase two of the celebration.

Phase one took place Tuesday morning with the Patriot Challenge five and 10 kilometer run at Anglers Park.

A couple dozen people participated in that.

The Danville Parks and Recreation Department spent most of the rest of the day getting ready for Tuesday night's festivities.

Along with the magic show, rides and face painting are planned and the Danville Symphony Orchestra will be playing starting about 7:45 p.m.

The night will end with a fireworks display.

"Every year, we do get more people down here. We're expecting a couple thousand just here and there are people all across the city as well watching," said special events coordinator Taylor Ahurron. "This is a very popular event. Everybody wants to celebrate the Fourth."

If you plan to go to the event, you cannot bring any food or drinks in with you and no pets except service animals will be allowed in.
