ROANOKE, Va. – Walmart opened a new training academy Tuesday in Roanoke.
Local front-line supervisors and department managers will attend a two-week training program at the academy, which is located on 4807 Valley View Boulevard.

“Our training academies help provide associates with the skills they need to succeed and advance while creating a better and more consistent customer experience,” said Bob Davis, Walmart regional general manager.
The first week of training is focused on retail fundamentals and gaining core retail skills.
The second week is dedicated to training on the sales floor in order to gain the necessary knowledge to run the associate’s specific department.
“Skills training increases productivity, confidence and knowledge which leads to greater job satisfaction, personal and professional growth and helps make working at Walmart a smart career choice,” said Davis.
Walmart plans on building 200 training academies in the U.S. by the end of the year.
