SMITH MOUNTAIN LAKE, Va. (WSLS 10) - Many know Virginia's slogan, "Virginia for Lovers."
"It's probably the most recognized slogan out there," said Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Vicki Gardner.
With its mountains, beaches, lakes, history and outdoor recreation, Smith Mountain Lake wants to spread that Virginia love with a new slogan, "Virginia is for Lake Lovers."
"A couple of things have happened over the last few years. That is, our area, our region, has been redefined as the mountain region which encompasses the lakes and all the recreational activities," explained Gardner.
The goal is to extend Virginia's love story to Smith Mountain Lake, as well as to the many other lakes in the Commonwealth.
The Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce received approval from the Virginia Tourism Corporation, so they can use the lake-centric slogan.
"We're going to do lots of media. Magazines, television, radio we can say that on radio too, also digital and online," said marketing and communications manager, Annette Stamus-Stull of Smith Mountain Lake.
