Roanoke shooting victim was set to graduate from college this year

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Asia Wade was four days away from her 29th birthday when she was shot and killed at the Shenandoah Village Apartments in Roanoke on Sunday night. Police are still searching for the alleged gunman.

Family members provided us with pictures of Asia Wade.

Although family members didn't want to go on camera, they said they'll miss her bright smile and are wondering who would want to kill a person full of life.

"It's very abnormal. I've never heard of that coming out of Shenandoah Village, but it is quite frankly new to me," said Brenae Taylor who lives in the complex.

Police say they found Wade shot, unconscious and face down in the doorway of an apartment on Sunday night. Those who live at the property, think the shooting is disturbing and makes the area unsafe for everyone.

"I did not know her personally but I will say that it does affect the people who do know her and love and care for her. My condolences go out to her friends and family. I'm just hoping this right here opens up the eyes of people who are contributing to these bad things and remember we do have kids in this area," said Taylor.

Family members also said Wade was in her senior year as a culinary student at Virginia Western Community College and enjoyed giving back to kids in the community.

Virginia Western has a counselor at the college for students and faculty.

In the meantime, Roanoke police say they have no updates to the case as of Tuesday afternoon.
