Danville's latest homicides 'taxing' on officers

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - Danville's police chief said Wednesday night's homicide, coming less than a week after the previous one is stressful.

Jonathan McDonald Hamlett, 41, was found shot multiple times in the 300 block of Chatelaine Avenue just before 8 p.m. and died a couple of hours later at Danville Regional Medical Center.

At about 10 a.m. on September 30, 47-year-old Mark Anthony Graves was shot and killed in the 1300 block of Aspen Street.

"When you do have back-to-back incidents like this, it does put a burden on the department, but we have a lot of good people down here who are willing to work those extra hours," Danville Police Chief Philip Broadfoot emphasized.

Wednesday's homicide is the ninth of the year in Danville.

Broadfoot would not say if any suspects had been identified in either case.

Both remain under investigation.
