DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - On Wednesday, the finishing touches were being put on Averett University's Frank R. Campbell Stadium.
A media tour of the stadium was held Wednesday morning on the $5.2 million project which has been underway for nearly a year.
It includes a new turf field, new stadium seating, an updated press box, president's suite and a new plaza outside the stadium.
University President Dr. Tiffany Franks says the upgrades will make the university more competitive and will send an important message to the university's student-athletes.
"They'll feel our commitment to not only what happens in the classroom, but what happens outside the classroom," Franks emphasized. "We are just so very proud of what we know our students are going to experience."
The project is part of the university's $29.1 million capital improvement campaign and will allow the university to offer men's and women's lacrosse and men's wrestling starting next fall.
