Explosion at Radford Army Ammunition Plant

RADFORD (WSLS 10) - An explosion is under investigation at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant.

At approximately 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 21st, an explosion occurred inthe production area at Radford Army Ammunition Plant.

According to  Lt. Col. Alicia "Ali" Masson of the Radford Army Ammunition Plant, there were no injuries. The resulting fire was extinguished by the Radford Army Ammunition Fire Department with assistance from the Fairlawn Volunteer Fire Department. The accident was associated with production work at the plant and is under investigation by Radford AAP employees.

"Safety of employees is our number one priority. Because of the safety procedures and processes in place, there were no injuries associated with this production accident," Masson said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
