Heather Pelat, Media General – DALLAS (MEDIA GENERAL) — The transit police officer killed in Thursday night's ambush in Dallas was a newlywed whose bride also works on the police force.
Officer Brent Thompson, 43, was shot and killed during a peaceful protest over fatal police shootings of black men in other states.

Rapid Transit Police Chief James Spiller described Thompson as a "courageous" and "great guy."
Spiller said Thompson got married just two weeks ago.
The Associated Press reported his wife, Emily, also works on the police force but was not on duty at the protest.
Thompson was among five police officers killed in the ambush. Seven others were injured. The names of the others officers were not immediately released.
Gunman Micah Johnson, 25, was killed Friday morning following a standoff with police. Three other suspects are in custody for questioning.
