Flooding Aftermath: How you can help

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Heavy rains led to record flooding in Alleghany County and Covington. People and areas hit the hardest by the storm now look to rebuild and recover - and you can help.

  • God's Pit Crew is collecting donations for flooding victims, as of 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 30, they have raised nearly $100,000. Visit their website or call 434-836-4472 to donate.
  • Greenbrier Nurseries is set up as a drop off point for supplies to go to the worst hit areas of Greenbrier Co., WV and Alleghany Co.
  • Donate to the American Red Cross.
  • The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is collecting donations. Deliveries can now be made 24/7. If it is after 3:30 p.m., use the intercom to speak with someone in the jail.
  • Rockfab Kitchen & Bath in Lynchburg is collecting items, which it will deliver to its office in White Sulphur Springs
  • North Roanoke Baptist Church (6402 Peters Creek Road) until July 6 from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m.
  • NorthWest Hardware in West Salem is collecting donations that a group from Living Well Church of the Nazarene in West Salem will take to West Virginia on Sunday afternoon
  • Westlake Automotive (13720 Booker T. Washington Highway, Moneta, VA 24121) is collecting water and/or bleach from June 30 to July 8.
  • Sweet Briar College's Cochran Library is accepting donations Monday - Friday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. until Tuesday, July 5.
  • Culligan Water Conditioning (5201 Williamson Road in Roanoke) will be collecting donations from 8 a.m to 5 p.m. starting July 5 and will continue to do so until July 15. Call 540-366-9078 if you have any questions.

If you're looking to donate, here's a list of items that organizations are looking for

  • Nonperishable food
  • Water
  • Diapers and baby wipes
  • Bleach
  • Men's clothing (most donations have been for women)
  • Boots of any kind (some people are wading and cleaning in their bare feet)
  • Batteries
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Trash bags
  • Tarps
  • Pet supplies
  • Surgical type masks
  • Gloves
  • Toiletries
