BEDFORD (WSLS 10) - The Bedford YMCA is implementing many changes for the Bedford Farmers Market this year.

The market will now consistently have live music and themes for children. It also will offer "Food Truck Fridays," similarly to the "Food Truck Fridays" held at the Lynchburg Farmers Market.

One of the most significant changes will be the implementation of SNAP, or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Paul Stern, the Farm Market Manager of the Bedford Farmers Market said with help of grants, SNAP recipients could get double the amount of food.

"So a snap recipient, let's say they come and swipe their card for $10. We would give them $20 in tokens that they could use to buy fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, fresh meats in the marketplace, and it's all local," said Stern.

Stern says changes like the SNAP implementation have been in the works for the last three years. Stern says he expects overall attendance to increase.

The Bedford Farmers Market will have a reopening on Tuesday, May 3.
