CHRISTIANSBURG (WSLS 10) - A former Christiansburg police officer will serve one year behind bars for embezzling money.

Stephen Kilby was found guilty back in August of seven felony counts of stealing money from the Virginia Bloodhound Search and Rescue Association. He was originally charged with 12 counts, but five were dropped because he pleaded no contest.

Earlier this week, Kilby was sentenced to two years on each count with all but one year suspended.

Prosecutors say he stole the money while he served as treasurer for the Virginia Bloodhound Search and Rescue Association from 2010 to 2014.
