BRISTOL (WSLS 10) - Food City, well known for their locally grown produce program is putting a "spin" on their typical produce fare. The company partnered with Turbana to create the world's largest pineapple display!

The former record was set on October 31, 2012 by Reasor's Foods of Bixby, Oklahoma.

The grocer amassed a display consisting of 2025 cases or approximately 14,175 pineapples, breaking the previous record of 8,820 pineapples set in April, 2012 by Macey's of Pleasant Grove, Utah.

Food City constructed a show stopping display housing 14,700 or over 18 tons of Fyffes pineapples, supplied by Turbana. If placed end-to-end the pineapples would span an amazing stretch of 3.5 miles.

The exhibit was constructed inside the Euclid Avenue Food City in Bristol, Virginia. Their team began the process Monday and debuted their massive creation Tuesday morning.

Food City customers are encouraged to post selfies with the display and hashtag #Pineappleworldrecord for a chance to win a free supply of Fyffes pineapples throughout the summer! Food City and Turbana will celebrate their victory with online Twitter activities and parties via social media.
