The Virginia Court of Appeals denied Taylor's appeal in April. The Nelson Co. Commonwealth's Attorney's Office confirmed Taylor had filed another appeal to the Supreme Court of Virginia. Commonwealth's attorney Anthony Martin filed a brief in opposition.

Murphy disappeared in August 2013. Her body was never found, but investigators found enough evidence to charge Taylor with abduction and murder.

He's maintained his innocence. However, during sentencing in July 2014, Taylor offered to give investigators information on the whereabouts of Murphy's body in exchange for a reduced sentence. That request was denied.
