PITTSYLVANIA (WSLS 10) - A man was arrested Friday after investigators say he falsely identified himself to a woman as a federal law enforcement officer. 

The Pittsylvania Co. Sheriff's Office said it received a complaint on April 3 from a woman who was stopped by the man while she was driving her on Martinsville Highway. She said the man was driving a black Ford Escape and told her he was a federal law enforcement officer.

The woman said she became suspicious of the man's actions and the questions he asked her, so she contacted the sheriff. 

The Special Investigations Division of the Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office and an agent with the Virginia State Police initiated an investigation and subsequently arrested 28-year-old Dominique Cornelius Grant of Martinsville. 

Investigators said Grant was taken into custody without incident and has been charged with impersonating law-enforcement officer who falsely assumed or exercised the functions, powers, duties, and privileges incident to the office of sheriff, police officer, marshal, or other peace officer, or any local, city, county, state, or federal law-enforcement officer, or who falsely assumes or pretends to be any such officer. 

Grant additionally was charged with knowingly and intentionally possessing or transporting ammunition for a firearm after having been convicted of a felony. 

Grant was taken to the Pittsylvania County Jail and released on bond. A court date has not been scheduled. The matter continues to be investigated with additional charges expected.
