BRISTOL, Va. (AP) - Office Depot Inc. says it's closing its Bristol customer service center as part of its merger with Office Max Inc., laying off about 140 people.
In a notice to Virginia officials, the Florida-based office products supplier says the closure will take place between May 22 and March 24, 2016.

Office Depot and OfficeMax completed their $1.2 billion merger in November 2013.
Then last month, Staples Inc., the nation's largest "big box" office supply chain, announced plans to buy its second-ranked rival, Office Depot, for $6 billion. The deal is expected to close by year's end.
According to the latest data, Bristol had a seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 5.5 percent in December 2014.
