ROANOKE (WSLS) - Roanoke City schools will outsource substitute teachers starting after winter break in January.
The school board made the decision Tuesday night. Transportation and nursing are already outsourced.

Roanoke City schools have between 300 and 500 substitutes.
By outsourcing the service Roanoke City Schools save on health insurance costs they would soon be required to pay for everyone who averages 30 hours a week or more.
Source4Teachers has a Virginia contract and districts like Newport News and Hampton already use them.
The company will recruit, hire, train, evaluate and discipline teachers.
