Blacksburg (WSLS) - The Blacksburg Police Department launches a new initiative to protect children in the community.
It is called Be Safe Blacksburg. The program is designed to teach elementary school through high school students how to respect themselves and one another, and how to stay safe.

Officers paid a visit to Harding Avenue Elementary School on Friday to pass along some trick or treating safety tips to the kids.
The initiative will be a year-around program, with officers making regular stops in the schools to speak with students.
