GRAYSON COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Outside of Grayson County High School residents can see a trailer with colorful signs reading, "Stop the corruption, Save our kids," and "Why does central office hate kids?"

"We've had problems before in the past but never to the point to where talking about closing a school," said Denise McMillian, a parent.

McMillian attended a meeting after learning about the possibility of school closures.

"The teachers and staff here in the entire Grayson school system are wonderful. They go above and beyond. I got a passion for it when I found out all this was going on," explained McMillian.

After getting a copy of the proposed budget, she and other parents noticed there were some discrepancies.

"My role is to look at the budget and see if I can make any sense of it," said Wanda Pinion with 'Grayson County Citizens 4 Better Schools.'

Pinion said after looking at the budget the biggest discrepancy was utilities. Nearly $500,000 was set aside for the 2013-2014 budget, but officials actually spent just over $700,000.

"It's pitiful there's no transparency whatsoever. There's no way any firm, a CPA firm, could pull it apart," explained Pinion

WSLS 10 tried to reach out with the Grayson County school superintendent to get him to explain if there were any issues with the budget and was told by the secretary that he wasn't available.

"We've appropriated over a million dollars to help alleviate some of the schools financial [issues]," said John Brewer with the Grayson County Board of Supervisors.

After hearing about the schools budget shortfall, the Board of Supervisors offered money, but with certain criteria. One, is that school officials would have to check in quarterly with the Board of Supervisors to let them know how the money is being spent.

"Right now, this has become a huge distraction for our children and we're looking to get them back interested in their studies," Brewer said.

In the end, parents say a change in leadership may be the best solution to help kids in the future.
