BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10) - Changes could be coming to a dangerous intersection in Blacksburg, but some drivers do not think that will be enough.

The 460-North Main Street intersection has seen around 50 accidents with injuries and four deaths in the last seven years.

The town of Blacksburg is working with VDOT to eliminate the left turn option. This will cost around $3.5 million and will be funded entirely by VDOT.

Drivers who use that area daily told the town this is a short-sighted solution to a deeper problem.

"The current plan is very problematic because it will cause movements beyond the intersection now that are very, very dangerous," said Blacksburg resident Joel Herbein.

Town leaders said they agree this is a short term solution, and they would like to ultimately build an interchange there.

VDOT told the town an interchange would likely cost more than $30 million, which is why it will be another 15 to 20 years before that can happen.
