ROANOKE – UPDATE: 

Roanoke police have identified the man who was found dead inside a car that was submerged in the Roanoke River on Saturday.

The incident remains under investigation. 

UPDATE:

Roanoke police are investigating after a man's body was found inside a car in the Roanoke River.

Police received a call around 8:10 a.m. Saturday to Vic Thomas Park behind Black Dog Salvage.

When they discovered the car, they dispatched the Swift Water Rescue Team to the scene where they found a man dead inside the vehicle.

The body was sent to the state medical examiner's office. Police will release the identity of the victim after they notify the family.

The Roanoke Police Department is handling the investigation.

First responders are on-scene after being called for a water rescue after a vehicle was found partially submerged in the Roanoke River.

The vehicle was spotted near 13th Street behind Black Dog Salvage in Roanoke City. Rescuers were called to the scene sometime after 10 a.m. Saturday.

Roanoke City 911 dispatchers say crews are on the scene.
