While Jazmine Otey joined the 10 News team in February 2021, her journey as a writer started at a young age.
She vividly remembers writing in composition notebooks as a child and letting her imagination run free.
That love for storytelling followed her well into adulthood.
While attending James Madison University, she wrote for The Breeze, the university’s only student-run newspaper and was an editorial intern for the magazine of the official publication of James Madison University.
In 2019, the Roanoke native traveled 4,618 miles to Urbino, Italy for JMU’s multimedia journalism program abroad. There, she reported on a local business that’s been a staple in its community for 31 years. She won the ‘Best Magazine Package’ award for her piece and grew in confidence as a writer.
After graduating from college in 2020 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism, she continued her journalism career as a general assignment intern at The Roanoke Tribune.
Jazmine is excited to be a part of the 10 News team and can’t wait to shed a light on the positivity within our community. If you have a story you would like to share, don’t be afraid to reach out!
