WSLS 10 Shred-A-Thon returns with first stop in Lynchburg

UPDATE: 19,000 pounds of paper were safely shredded at Monday's first Shred-A-Thon event of 2015.

(WSLS 10) - Identity theft is a growing issue that's not going away. Starting at the end of April and throughout the month of May, WSLS 10 and Kodiak Shredding are teaming up to help fight it.

As we've reported, shredding is one easy way residents can help protect their identity from being stolen, and these events can save folks some money too.

WSLS 10 Shred-A-Thon welcomes repeat shredders, breaks records

Anything you bring to the designated locations will be shredded for free.

Did you know...

One ton of recycled paper saves 7,000 gallons of water, 4,100 kilowatts of electricity, 60 pounds of air pollution, 17 trees, three cubic yards of landfill, and two gallons of oil? 

Four events are scheduled in various locations throughout the Commonwealth. People can drop off material to be shredded at these locations:

April 27th  - Lynchburg

May 4th  -  Christiansburg (NRV)

G&H Appliance

1290 Roanoke St

May 11th  -  Roanoke

Shively Electric

1023 Kimball Ave NE

May 18th  -  Martinsville

Martinsville Speedway

340 Speedway Rd, Ridgeway

All events will run from 6 a.m. - 2 p.m.
