Fundraiser for God's Pit Crew helps middle school students learn about STEM

Bonner Middle School students presented fundraising check Thursday

DANVILLE, Va. – Middle school students are learning while helping hurricane victims.

On Thursday, students at Bonner Middle School in Danville presented a $3,500 check to God's Pit Crew to purchase relief supplies for hurricane victims.

The students have been raising the money for about a month.

After the presentation, a representative from God's Pit Crew talked to the students about how science, technology, engineering and math are used to get supplies to people in need.

"Having the students take that format is preparing them for whatever they may come up against. It's teaching them for the future," said Jackie Harrell, a paraprofessional at Bonner Middle School and the coordinator of Thursday's presentation.

The students also had an opportunity to get a firsthand look at one of God's Pit Crew's trucks.
