DANVILLE, Va. – You have less than a week now to cast your vote and help raise money for charities in Southside.
The eight annual Decorating Trees for a Cause event at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research in Danville ends Thursday.
This year, 45 trees have been set up by nonprofits or companies sponsoring a nonprofit.
You pay to vote for your favorite tree and your money goes to that nonprofit.
As of Friday afternoon, $5,000 had been raised.
Ellen Bass, the sales and marketing manager for the IALRÂ conference center, said there is always a big rush during the last week of voting so the amount of money raised is expected to go up.
"We feel like this is money that would not be donated if it was not for these trees here," Bass said. "In the seven years, we've raised over $70,000."
The winning nonprofit gets an extra $1,000 donated by the event's sponsors.
