Roanoke's Ronald McDonald House assesses damage after flooding

Sprinkler system ruptured, flooding the facility

ROANOKE, Va. – Cleanup efforts continue Thursday at the Ronald McDonald House in Roanoke.

A sprinkler system ruptured Monday, flooding the facility.

Executive director Anna Semonco said alarms went off after water filled the dining room and entryway.

Organizers moved families staying at the house into a safe location.

None of their bedrooms were damaged.

Crews said the recent change in temperatures caused the rupture.

"Now we're assessing all the damage. What all have we lost? What all needs repair to put us back operational again," said Semonco.

Employees hope to return to full operating capacity as soon as possible.
