Local Daughters of the American Revolution chapter honors veterans

Held wreath-laying ceremony Saturday

ROANOKE, Va. – The local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution held a wreath-laying ceremony Saturday to honor veterans.

Dozens came out to pay tribute, remembering those who are currently serving and those who first fought for our freedom.

Organizers said both Saturday’s event and the day itself are important for the nation.

"At a very young age, my dad was telling me about the war and what he had to do. I realize that a lot of people’s jobs, they don't think about it, they don't think about what veterans do for us, what military does for us to keep us free. I mean it's a land of the free and the brave and we should be very happy that we would be in this land in the whole world," Daughters of the American Revolution chapter President Mary Bess Jordan said.

During the ceremony, they also took the time to remember those who have died fighting for our freedom.
