Ok this is getting a little crazy. We are already about EIGHT degrees above normal for the month of February with even more warmth on the way. Even with mostly cloudy skies for the second half of Saturday, temperatures close back in on 70 degrees….and the warmth stays with us.
This latest date with spring is brought to us by a very intense storm along the west coast of the United States. The “dip” in the jetstream out west is sending the jetstream WAY up north allowing unseasonably warm temperatures to venture north.
The water vapor image below shows us the vigorous trough or dip in the jetsream along the California coast.
Golfing? In February? Maybe that’s not unheard of, but a stretch of warmth like we are seeing may end up being just that.
While the warm weather may be good for shaking off the rust a bit early…this can’t be good for trees and plants that think it’s early May when in reality we are still about a month away from spring. Rachel Lucas snapped a pictures of some bees pollinating trees in downtown Roanoke.
Undoubtedly a frost or freeze will be upon us down the road and anything that got an early jump on blooming will be in danger of being killed.
