Hottest Stretch Of The Year (By Far) Arrives Friday

If you think it’s been hot around these parts, we haven’t seen anything yet!

Find your local freezer as the extreme heat that has been making headlines in the Plains is headed this this way by Friday! Let’s check in with our 90 degrees tracker to date before we dive into the heat. Speaking of dive…the pool will also be a good alternative to stay cool as hugging a bag of ice in your local grocers freezer is likely frowned upon.

Anyway as of early Wednesday afternoon we have seen eight 90 degree days in 2016. By the next time temperatures top out in the 80s we could double that number. Yeah. We’re in this heat wave for an extended period of time.

The heat is currently out in the Plains and Upper Midwest. Heat headlines from the National Weather Service dominate that part of the county. This is where our next air mass is coming from.

All of those warnings and of course the heat in the nations heartland under a huge ridge of high pressure.

That “dome” of high pressure will start to slide east a bit Thursday and by Friday and especially the weekend we will be in the “core” of the hottest weather we have seen so far this summer.

The core of that heat contains actual air temperatures ranging anywhere from 90-100 degrees! When you factor in that humidity it could feel more like 95 to 105. This heat looks like it could last well into next week with 90s in the forecast through at least next Wednesday (9/27). More on the heat to come! Stay cool!
