19-year-old man charged with pointing gun at Roanoke police officer

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Roanoke police arrested a man on Sunday who they say pointed a gun at officers.

Officers were called to the 1700 block of Empress Drive NW for a report of suspicious activity after a man had been seen coming out of an apartment with a handgun at about 1 a.m.

Police had been there two days earlier looking for a runaway juvenile girl after hearing she may be in the same apartment. A family member of the runaway juvenile reported going to the apartment earlier and that a man with a gun answered the door.

When officers knocked on the door, a man inside asked who was knocking and the officers identified themselves as police, according to the Roanoke Police Department.

Carlos Inez Sifuentes-Wiseman, 19, of Roanoke, answered the door holding a handgun and pointed it directly at an officer. Officers immediately gave him verbal commands to put the gun down and he placed it on a table beside him.

Sifuentes-Wiseman was taken into custody and charged with brandishing, assault on law enforcement, possession of alcohol by someone under the age of 21, and possession of a firearm with altered serial number.

Police say that the handgun that he was brandishing had the serial number removed and that a second handgun was recovered along with a small amount of marijuana.

Sifuentes-Wiseman was taken to the Roanoke City Jail.

The runaway juvenile girl was found inside the apartment and was picked up by a family member. The investigation is ongoing.
