UPDATE: 1 Person Dead after crash in Moneta

UPDATE: Virginia State Police say one person is dead after a head on collision in Bedford County.

It happened around 9:00 P.M. on Diamond Hill Road, approximately 1/10 of a mile from the intersection of Route 122, in Moneta.

Trooper Michael Heath says preliminary investigations show that a 2001 Ford Ranger was heading West-bound on Diamond Hill when it lost control. The truck crossed the center line, hitting a Chevrolet Van head on.

Police say both vehicles were engulfed when crews arrived on scene. A person was trapped inside one of the vehicles, but was rescued.

The driver killed in the crash was not wearing a seat-belt. The other victim was air-lifted to a hospital.

Police have not released the names of the victims and are continuing to investigate.

Diamond Hill Road has since been reopened.

MONETA (WSLS 10) - State police are on the scene of a crash in Moneta.

The crash happened on Diamond Hill Road sometime Friday night.

A Life-Guard helicopter has also responded to the scene.

As of 10:28 p.m., Diamond Hill Road is closed in both directions, according to VDOT.
