Crews respond to morning house fire in Lexington

LEXINGTON (WSLS 10) - The Lexington Fire Department says crews are in the cleanup stage after a house fire in Lexington.

Crews say the fire started at 6:45 Thursday morning, at 125 Winding Way.

The Rockbridge County Fire Chief says six Washington & Lee students were inside when the fire started.

One of the students woke up, smelled the smoke and saw the fire. The chief says the student was able to wake up everyone else and they all got out safely.

The home is a total loss as the fire caused more than $200,000 in damages.

The fire is believed to have started in the front of the home

About 25 firefighters responded, and crews say the fire was under control in about 30 minutes
